The project

Please help us to develop the archaeological site of ancient Tannetum and promote the cultural heritage of the surrounding area.

The archaeological project was started in 2016, to research and uncover the ancient Celtic town of Tannetum, which later became a Roman municipality. The excavation has yielded great results in terms of reconstruction of the historic area, allowing us to interpret ancient and historic sources in a new light and unearth precious hidden structures, not least a castle, whose location was the only available information until our excavation in 2017 revealed its chronology. Despite these tangible results, today’s attitude to culture makes it hard to obtain the necessary financial support from both businesses, funds, and banks, with some notable exceptions which are listed on our Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/650281665168231/. https://www.facebook.com/groups/650281665168231/) e la totalità, ad ora, degli istituti bancari non ci hanno supportato.

Bearing in mind the rich cultural wealth in the area and the important role played by culture in providing social cohesion, we are therefore now asking ordinary people - ordinary only on words but exceptional in their generosity and civic sense – for their help to continue the research and excavation and carry out the full set of activities required to make archaeology available for everybody, forever.

In addition to an initial donation made by Paolo Storchi, our minimal aim is for your generous donation to fund the continued excavation in the summer of 2018 (depending on permission by the Archaeological Authority). Our longer-term ambition, however, is to create an archaeological park and a museum, institutions with great cultural value for both our own and future generations. If we get that far, we plan a ‘wall of fame’ with all your names. Concession for excavation is issued yearly by the Ministry of Culture. Should it not be granted for 2018, the collected funds will be redirected towards cultural activities arranged in cooperation with the Archaeological Authority, such as symposia, the restoration of the already unearthed structures or the creation of an information centre on the history of the territory.
